Frequency Dependance of Arterial Wall Young Modulus after De-endothelization

چکیده
The aim of the present study was to determine if endothelial function could influence the complex elastic modulus of the arterial wall. Seven ovine brachiocephalic arteries were studied in-vitro, under pulsatile flow conditions. Complex Viscoelastic Modulus (E’) and Phase Angle of E’ (φ) were calculated before and after de-endothelization (DE) in three frequency (f) levels within the physiological range. Values of E’ obtained after DE were significatively higher (p<0.05) after DE for all f studied: from 2.01 ± 0.81 to 2.46 ± 0.99 10dyn/cm in f1; from 2.08 ± 0.91 to 2.46 ± 0.91 10dyn/cm in f2; and from 1.85 ± 0.8 to 2.28 ± 1.04 10dyn/cm in f3. No significative differences were observed in φ values before and after DE for all f studied. Endothelium removal induced significant increases in Complex Viscoelastic Modulus at identical frequency behavior. Endothelium could contribute to minimize the beat-to-beat energy dissipation due to arterial wall viscosity in arteries.

Assessing the intima-media thickness and Young modulus changes of the common carotid artery in the neck region external radiotherapy based on the processing of ultrasonic images
Since it is too vital to the prevention of carotid disease in the vascular system, it seems necessary to the estimation of the elastic behavior of the carotid artery in head and neck external radiotherapy. In the present study, a total of 24 neck carcinoma patients treated with external radiotherapy had been studied. The carotid mean dose values were determined for each case by contouring the c...
متن کاملPresentation of a Non-invasive Method of Estimating Arterial Stiffness by Modeling Blood Flow and Arterial Wall Based on the Determination of Elastic Module of Arterial Wall
Introduction: Arterial stiffness is an important predictor of cardiovascular risk. Several indices have been introduced to estimate the arterial stiffness based on the changes in the brachial blood pressure. Since the substitution of the blood pressure changes in the central arteries such as carotid with the blood pressure changes in the brachial results in error in the blood...
متن کامل[Regional differences in viscosity, elasticity and wall buffering function in systemic arteries: pulse wave analysis of the arterial pressure-diameter relationship].
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Regional variations in the incidence of vascular diseases have been related to regional differences in arterial viscoelasticity. The aim of this study was to characterize the differences in the elastic and viscous modulus and in wall buffering function between central and peripheral systemic arteries, through a time-series analysis of the pressure-diameter relationsh...
متن کاملEndothelium-dependent arterial wall tone elasticity modulated by blood viscosity.
The role of blood viscosity on arterial wall elasticity before and after deendothelization (DE) was studied. Seven ovine brachiocephalic arteries were studied in vitro under physiological pulsatile flow conditions achieved by a mock circulation loop. Instantaneous pressure and diameter signals were assessed in each arterial segment. Incremental elastic modulus (E(inc)) was calculated using the ...

AIM An adventitia dependent regulation of the vascular smooth muscle tone has been described. However, if the adventitia plays an active role on arterial wall biomechanical behaviour and functions remains to be established. Our aim was to characterize the influence of adventitia on arterial wall mechanical properties and the arterial conduit and buffer functions. METHODS Ovine brachiocephalic...
